40 HOURS VOLUNTEERING

As a Ministry of Education requirement, all students must complete 40 hours of volunteer work between grade 9 and 12 to receive their secondary school diploma. The aim of the 40 hours of community involvement is to promote good citizenship and to encourage students to become actively involved in making positive contributions to their community.

The school will not be directly involved in finding volunteer placements. Ministry guidelines determine which activities are eligible or ineligible for the community involvement requirement. A complete list of eligible and ineligible activities is here .
Be sure to download the Volunteer Form from here . Remember if you don't record your hours in this Form it won't be counted.

Youth Resource Network of Canada contains over 200 hundred Canadian job-
   related links. They have been sorted by job category and province. It
   includes access to the National Graduate Register and Young Canada Works
   program.

Youth Employment Strategy
Job Banks (HRDC) connects you to job opportunities across the country.

Job Hunter includes a sample resume and cover letter plus suggestions for
   new grads. Provides an overview of what employers look for and it provides
   links to more detailed job-posting sites oriented towards students.
Next Steps provides employment and career related information for young
   people - job search skills, interview skills and much more.

Career Exploration developed by the Ontario Ministry of Education and
   Training contains Occupational descriptions.
Career Path provides an alpha listing of links to related sites
Job Futures developed by the Federal Government. This site lists
   occupations in many different ways such as alpha, NOC code, skill type and
   level, associations by occupation.
Job Profiles should be used in addition to other career and market
   information sites. It has directories by category, alpha, or search by specific
   job titles..
