Glenforest traveled to Rick Hansen yesterday to compete in the ROPSSAA badminton finals. With high expectations and hope of maybe a Junior team championship, the Gryphons started the day winning 5 of the first 7 matches played. The competition was intense and much to the disappointment of our team we had to settle for a fifth place overall.
Individual accomplishments included:
Undefeated in 5 straight matches Danusha Ambagahawta and Shazad Abraham-Doman received the gold medal for Men's Doubles
Nikhil Raheja placed 6th in Men's Singles
Monica Tran and Regine Li finished 7th in Women's Doubles
Philip Chen and Hetal Davda tied our other Mixed Doubles pair of Amaan Khan and Mila Evanics for 7th place
Jacky Chan and Steven Wong finished 9th in Men's Doubles
And Tanya Malhotra placed 12 in Women's Singles.
With 50 schools and over 800 students competing these are outstanding results.

Congratulations to the entire Junior Badminton Team on an outstanding performance at the South East Regional Qualifier this past Wednesday at Humber College.
Some of our highlight performances included:
In Men's Singles Nikhil Raheja finishing 1st .
In a 32 team Men's Doubles draw Danusha and Shazad finished first with Jacky and Steven finishing second.
In Mixed Doubles Amaan and Mila finished 3rd and Philip and Hetal finished 4th .
In Women's Doubles Monica and Regine finished 3rd with Frances and Shraddha finishing 6th.
In Women's singles Tanya Malhotra finished in 5th spot.
11 juniors have qualified for the ROPSSAA Finals at Rick Hansen S.S. next Tuesday May 17th. Keep up your winning ways juniors.
Other results from the qualifier included:
Rachel and Juliana finished 12th in Women's Doubles and Aaron and Umair finished 12th in Men's Doubles. Well done first year junior's.

Glenforest flexed it's badminton muscle on Tuesday completely dominated the annual Gryphon Invitational Badminton Tournament. With 32 teams entering Glenforest won 19 of 24 matches including
boys doubles winning 18 of 20 games mixed doubles, 8 wins and only 3 losses girls doubles, 14 wins with 7 losses
Specific results include: Danusha and Shazad 6 wins with 0 losses Stephen and Jacky 6 wins with 0 losses Aaron and Umair all three matches won Amaan and Mila 1 and 1 in matches Philip and Hetal 6 wins and 1 loss Monica and Regine 4 wins and 4 losses Frances and Shraddha 6 wins and 1 loss Rachel and Julianna 4 wins and 2 losses Nikhil and Tanya 5 wins and 3 losses Marzooq and Ruchi 5 wins and 2 losses

ROPSSAA Open Badminton FinalsFriday, May 6, 2005 at 7:14:31 AM Yin Places Fourth in OFSSAA Qualifier
Penny Yin stepped up her game finishing fourth in the Region of Peel Open Badminton Tournament. This is the best of the best in ROPSSAA badminton and a fourth place finish for Penny is amazing!! Top two finishers in this tournament go on to the next level of play, the Ontario finals.
Other notable finishes included a 7th place by Devin Campbell, our grade nine 'phenom' singles player of the future, and a 12th place finish for Cunan Cao in men's singles. Stephenie Ching was unable to compete this year due to a knee injury, get well soon Steph. Mr. Davis
