FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.      When is the deadline to submit application packages?
         All important dates are listed on the Glenforest website.
2.      How can I find more information about the IB programme?
         Our website provides a link to the IBO website www.ibo.org which contains interesting
         and useful information about the International Baccalaureate Programme.
3.      How do I apply?
         Download an application package from the our website www.glenforestlibrary.com. 
         completed package and the application fee of $30.00 mail to the main school office 
         Attention:  I.B. Admissions
4.      Can I come in and pick up an application package from the main office?
         All applications must be downloaded from our website.
5.      Can applicants make an appointment to discuss their application with the Principal
         or the IB Coordinator?
         It is not possible for us to meet with each applicant individually. We receive many
         applications and find the most effective way to handle questions is by email to the
         Coordinator.
6.      I missed the grade 8 IB Parents night. Will there be another one?
         There is only one IB information night. The grade 8 parent night scheduled for January is
         not specific to IB. Please visit the Glenforest website for information on the IB programme 
         and to download an application package.
7.      Can I apply using flex boundaries?
         Glenforest S.S. is the IB school for Peel students living south of the 401 highway.  Students
         living north of the 401, who are interested in the I.B. Programme should visit the
         website of P.D.S.B. Turner Fenton S.S.
8.      What is an OEN?
         The OEN (Ontario Education Number) is a provincial student number which is listed on
         report cards.
9.      How do you decide which students are admitted into the programme?
         A committee consisting of a cross section of teachers, administrators, the IB counselor and
         the IB coordinator reviews each application and makes a determination. 
10.    What if I don't have a Peel Student Number?
         Students applying from outside of the Peel District School Board, will be issued a temporary
         Glenforest number. To obtain the temporary number, please e-mail the IB Administrative
         Assistant.
11.    What kind of a student is a good candidate for IB?
         The characteristic of the I.B. student is outlined in the I.B. Learner Profile which is available
         in the I.B. info package on the web site. Students with strong academic marks, who are
         well rounded individuals, involved in extra curricular activities, interested in an international
         perspective and who want to learn, like school, and like to work on school work are good
         candidates.
12.    Is there an entrance exam to get into the IB programme?
         There is no entrance exam.
13.    Should I provide more than 2 teacher references?
         You only need to submit 2 teacher references.
14.    How will I find out if I have been accepted into the programme?
         Student will be notified of their status by the end of February. Successful students will be
         notified by mail and the acceptance list will be posted on the Glenforest website.
15.    What is the student resume?
         The student resume is an opportunity for you to tell us about yourself and highlight things
         that you have not been able to include in the other sections of the application forms. There
         are many formats for resumes. This is your opportunity to do some research and find a
         resume format that would be appropriate to describe yourself to us.
16.    Where is the topic for the student essay question?
         The student essay question will be posted on the web by early December.
17.    If I decide to come out of the IB Programme, can I still stay at Glenforest S.S.?
         Students who do not continue in the IB Programme are expected to return to their home
         school as per the Boards Regional Program Policy.
18.    I am very interested in the IB Programme, but am concerned about bussing. Is 
        there bussing available for IB students
?

        The IB parent council has arranged for private bussing for IB students. Please refer to our
        website for the link to the bussing information.
19.    If I change my mind, are the fees refundable? 
        The application fee and acceptance fee are non refundable. For the IB Programme fees refer
        to the Fee Schedule on the website.

20.  If I have any more questions, what is the best way to get in touch with the IB 
       coordinator or the IB Administrative Assistant.
       The best way to get in touch with us, is via e-mail. We will do our best to get back to you
       within 48 hours.
21.  Is French the only Group 2 - Second Language studied in the IB programme at Glenforest? 
       Yes, French B SL is the only Group 2 course that is offered at Glenforest S.S. and is a requirement of the
       IB diploma. The course is offered at the standard level in grade 11 and 12. Successful IB students are
       comfortable reading and writing in French.
22.  What is an IEP?
       
The IEP is an "Individual Learning Plan". If you do not have an IEP, indicate NA in the box.
       Students with an IEP should check off the box and attach a copy of the IEP to the
       application package.
23.  How do I get the written response onto the Written Component form?
       
You have 3 choices:
         1. You may handwrite your response. Take care that your handwriting is legible.
         2. You can format your response in "Word" to fit the space provided and print it onto the
             Written Component form.
         3. You can print out the answer and tape or staple it onto the Written Component form.
         Remember to include your rough notes.
