Deadline was Jan. 11, 2012. Intake is closed for Sept. 2012. We have now processed all of the applications and are proceeding to the second stage of the application process. We received over 450 applications. All of the applications were wonderful to read and it is clear that the students put a lot of hard work into completing the requirements. After careful consideration we have invited 250 to write the admissions test on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012. We will use the results of the test to determine those students who will be offered a placement in our GFSS Pre IB Programme. We can only accept 116 students. You should all be very proud of yourselves for all of the hard work and perseverance that it took for you to put together your application. As T.S. Elliot said: “Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go”. Thank you for your interest in the IB programme. Best of luck in your future education. For those of you just starting in the pre-IB programme, welcome to Glenforest. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the students, parents, staff and administration as the IB Co-ordinator. My own education and experiences reflect many of the aims of the IB mission statement. My personal experiences are varied with direct and indirect influences from across the globe including Germany, Britain, Lebanon, Trinidad and the Baltic states. I attended grade school in Germany while my father was working there at the University in Heidelberg and spent a term at university studying architecture in Italy. My architectural education was a true Renaissance education including studies in science (mostly physics) history and visual arts. It inherently required the study of people throughout the world, the way they live, think and express themselves through their environment. It was a truly international experience. As a practicing architect for over fifteen years I learned project management and co-ordination skills which will be a benefit to me now in my role as a co-ordinator of the IB programme. I became a teacher in order to further my interest in education and I am a strong supporter of continuous learning. I have thoroughly loved my experiences with the students and staff at Glenforest and have seen the benefits that the IB programme has brought to the school community. I hope that those Glenforest students not currently in the IB programme will take advantage of the opportunity to earn a certificate in specific subjects. I look forward to assisting the growth of the programme and working with our students. Ms D. Habib THE SUCCESSFUL IB STUDENT:: Be self-motivated and demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a strong desire for learning :: Accept challenges readily and demonstrate personal initiative :: Demonstrate strong academic potential; high academic standing (honors' student: 80-85% minimum average) :: Be a competent reader and possess a broad range of academic and other interests :: Speak and write the English language clearly and effectively and possess a commitment to second-language (French) learning :: Participate in school and community activities :: Have a global perspective with an interest in international issues :: Be open to new ideas and tolerant of different beliefs To learn more about the IB learner profile, click here. |
