FACTS OR OPINION OR ARGUMENT
How can you tell the difference?
Facts:
• are precise and definite
• very specific
• can be verified
• events that have happened
Example: Toronto has a population over 2,000,000.
Opinions:
• thought, feelings
• personal ideas
• not proven
• not specific often vague
• general statements
• emotional ideas
Example: Toronto would be a great place to host the Olympics.
Arguments:
• a statement is made and examples are given as evidence
• an explanation is given to support a statement
• a opinion supported by examples to prove an idea
Example: Hosting the Toronto Olympics in 2008 is a risk because millions of dollars must be invested before any tourist dollars come back into Toronto.
CREATING A BIBLIOGRAPHY
Having trouble creating a bibliography? Not sure what information to include in the "Works Cited" part of your report? Then download our helpful "Works Cited Guide" to get tips on citing anything from newspapers to Encyclopedias.
Note: You will need legal size paper (14 inches) to print this document.
Citationmachine.net makes bibliography compilation a simple task.
PLAGIARISM
Easy but deadly. You WILL be caught. You will suffer consequences. Plagiarism is academic theft! You are stealing someone else's work. YOU WILL ALWAYS RECEIVE ZERO on the assignment and a call home. In addition you may receive a suspension and be forced to withdraw from the course.
Buying essays on the web is a bad idea because you are the victim. Websites that sell or give out essays for free are using you to make money. Free essays are using banner advertisements to make money. These webmasters are banking on your gullibility to use their services. They do NOT care that you will suffer consequences.
The most plagiarized resource is the Encarta Encyclopedia. There are some excellent search engines that teachers use that will surf the net for any string of words. All the teacher has to do is type a couple of sentences of your essay into the search engine and BINGO the site is found.
ELECTRONIC NOTE-MAKING
Electronic note-making is an efficient way of gathering information from computer sources.
• Open up a word processor
• Copy and paste relevant information from databases and web pages
• Copy and paste the bibliographic info
